$5 Liberty Gold Coin The first five dollar gold coins were known as "Half Eagles." These were the very first gold coins actually struck by the United States government.
Limited MintageThe $5 Liberty design was first minted from 1839 through 1929, which was the last year of minting for all $5 coins in the United States.
Historic Mint MarksThe $5 Liberty series is one of only two coins in our nation's history to be minted at seven different branches of United States Mints!
Classic DesignThe lovely $5 Liberty design was introduced in 1839 by Christian Gobrecht, and features a portrait of Miss Liberty encircled by 13 stars that represent the first 13 colonies. The reverse bears a majestic heraldic Eagle with outstretched wings. In 1866 the motto "In God We Trust" was added above the head of the eagle in a flowing banner.
